Silk Screen & Photolithography

Over the past few weeks I have been learning how to make prints with a silk screen. I have dabbled a little bit in silk screens a few years ago but have realized how much I enjoy the process by working with it again. Below is a screen that I have been working on that represent water ripples and it is part of my water portfolio project. This image was taken from the collages we previously created and it was than hand painted onto the screen. Also I have been experimenting with my choice of ink color and the way it is being printed.

Recently I have been interested in printing things with white ink. I like the whole idea of their being an image by as the viewer you need to engage in the piece more than usual to fully see and understand what is being said. Here is an example of one of the prints I pulled (it may be really hard to see because of the white ink. I will try and post a better picture tomorrow). At first I had some difficulties with the printing of the silk screen. I believe there was to much ink but it is just something that will get better the more times I print it.

Like I said previously this image is only one part of my image for the water portfolio project. My favorite form of printmaking is photolithography. So I have also been working on a image that will be turned into a photolitho print. The silk screen prints the negative image of the water ripples and the photolitho I am working on will be the opposite and it is stippled.

Also outside of class I have been working on creating some photolithography prints. They are of very organic shapes and they also are playing with the idea of printing with white inks.

This last print is one example of using the white ink but it is really hard to see when photographed.
